Olympic National Park is a World Heritage Site, a designation that recognizes its beauty and diversity of ecosystems. Bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, it is home to the longest stretch of undeveloped coastline in the lower 48 states. Rising from the coast is an old growth rain forest system from which isolated snow clad peaks rise high above tree line. In the very midst of this lies Mt. Olympus, the crown jewel of the Olympic Peninsula. The mountain rises almost 8,000 vertical feet from the ocean, 30 miles distant. The climb of Mt Olympus starts up the Hoh River Valley, hiking for two days up past the tree line and into the alpine zone at the base of the Blue Glacier.
