Phunuru checked in to report that the team had a very nice climb today. The team started from Barafu Camp at about 12:30AM and reached the summit at dawn. First they hit Stella Point (the crater rim), then traversed around to Uhuru Peak, just as the sun was rising.  Well done! The team have now all descended to Millennium Camp (about 12,000 feet) for the night, and they will finish the descent to Mweka Gate in the morning. All’s well on Kilimanjaro!
Kilimanjaro Climbers are in position to climb!
February 19, 2023
Yesterday the Kilimanjaro team moved to Karanga Camp, which is one of the most beautiful days of hiking. First they ascended the steep trail on the Barancco Wall, then traversed below the Southern Glaciers before crossing the last running water at Karanga Valley and climbing to the nearby Camp. Last night was the third in a row at about 13,000 feet, which was great acclimatization for them. Today, Phunuru Sherpa reports the team got up and made the short but steeper move up to the Barafu Camp, at about 15,000 feet. They arrived in time for a hot lunch, and then spent the afternoon resting and preparing for the climb tonight. The team plans to leave at 12:20AM for the summit. We’ll keep you posted!

Kilimanjaro Climbers hit the trail!
February 15, 2023-
IMG guide Phunuru Sherpa reports the team had a great day today, and everyone is doing well. After traveling halfway around the world, doing the duffel shuffle and getting all packed up, it was finally time to hit the trail. First off was a scenic drive from Moshi up through the coffee, tea, and banana farms on the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro to the trailhead at the Machame Gate, where they met their porters and camp crew. The weather was excellent for their hike up through the rain forest to the Machame Camp, located at about 9500 feet near the treeline. Tomorrow they leave the forest behind them as they enter the moorlands on their climb to Shira Plateau. All’s well on Kilimanjaro!

IMG’s 2023 Everest Base Camp site selected
February 13, 2023
Ang Jangbu and Phunuru report from Nepal that Sonam Dorje went to Everest Base Camp this past week and selected our IMG Base Camp site on the Khumbu Glacier. The Khumbu Glacier continues to move and churn continuously, so each year the camps need to be completely rebuilt from scratch. Anyone who has slept at EBC will recall the pops and snaps from the ice, especially if they wake you up at night! In the coming weeks, we’ll have our sherpa team up there to start building the tent platforms. It’s always amazing what a transformation it is from what looks like a gravel pit to a well-manicured campsite!

That’s a Wrap on Aconcagua!
9 February, 2023
That’s a wrap on Aconcagua! IMG Guide Keith Rumburg checked in after wrapping up our last trip on Aconcagua to report that everyone is safely off the mountain. Everyone is now home and recovering after a great trip on the highest peak in the southern hemisphere. The team had some stunning views from camp 2 at 18,000ft with a blanket of new snow covering the mountain. This was our last trip on Aconcagua for the Winter 22/23 season. It was a beautiful season in Argentina with snow and storms making for occasionally challenging travel conditions but stunning views! Stay tuned for our Winter 2023/2024 dates to be released soon!

Climbing in Ouray CO
Feb 8, 2023 –
The IMG Ouray team has been having a stellar season! We’ve benefited from incredible ice conditions down in Ouray, Colorado this winter. The Ouray Ice Park has had over 200 climbs to choose from due to the great weather. Our teams have enjoyed everything from low angle slabs to learn on to steep pillars to push their limits.
Additionally, the backcountry ice has been climbing great this year. We have been fortunate enough to climb Bear Creek Falls with two groups. This climb which hasn’t formed in the past two years! Our teams have enjoyed the classic climbs such as Charmin Tube and Camp Bird that have been climbing fantastically as well with thick ice.
The ice season will continue through the end of February and we couldn’t be more excited. Longer days with more sunshine make ice climbing that much more fun!
Best,
Justin Sackett
