April 17, 2014 Our Denali Prep team got a lesson in shoveling at Camp Muir this morning. It snowed a fair bit and was quite windy overnight… so if you’ve spent much time in the mountains you know that Snow + Wind = Shovel.

Denali Prep Seminar Gave It A Go This Morning
April 16, 2014 You wouldn’t think a shot at the summit of Mt. Rainier was possible today if you lived in western Washington (rainy and gray), but our Denali Prep Seminar gave it a good effort this morning before turning around just above 13,000ft due to increasing winds and decreasing visibility. The team is now […]
Denali Preppin’ On Mt. Rainier
March 20, 2014 Our latest Denali Prep team is up at Camp Muir training away. The weather cooperated enough for them to get to Muir (that’s a win this time of year) but isn’t quite conducive to a summit attempt. No matter, they’ve got unlimited terrain to train in for the last couple days of […]
Denali Prepped And Mt. Rainier Worked
March 5, 2014 Well Mt. Rainier asserted her authority once again this week… The Denali Prep Seminar got into the park as scheduled, just before a series of storms rolled in. The team knew the weather was on the way, they just hoped they could get into the park before the park shut things down. […]
Winter Training Commences On Mt. Rainier
February 16, 2014 Began our first full day of our Winter Seminar this morning. Rainier lived up to its reputation for nasty winter weather. Avalanche awareness lecture this morning and then an afternoon in the field below Eagle Peak, studying terrain problems, route selection, beacon retrieval and rescue scenarios. Mt. Rainier Shut The Door Early This Year
September 30, 2013 The Mt. Rainier climbing season came to a screeching halt last week with the arrival of a couple (yes a couple) premature winter storms and “Winter Storm Warningsâ€. We don’t normally get these winter storms in September, in fact, most years we could guide Rainier well into October. So, with the winds […]
Mt. Rainier Route Looking Good
September 12, 2013 IMG partner Eric Simonson and I took a break from the office the past couple of days and climbed Mt. Rainier to review the new summit route. Conditions couldn’t have been better on the mountain. I have rarely seen a better September route to the summit and my hat goes off to […]
Rainier Team Summits Today
September 10, 2013 Justin Merle called in from the summit of Mt. Rainier this morning reporting good conditions on a new route he and his team put in yesterday. The route has been tricky this year especially as of late, but this recent good weather has given us an opportunity to get some scouting done […]
2014 Rainier Dates Released
September 5, 2013 The headline says it all. Our much anticipated 2014 Rainier dates are now available. Any further attempts at bribery are futile! (Note: all previous attempts at bribery were also futile.) Let’s cut to the chase: Winter & Denali Prep Seminars: Literally a prerequisite for Denali. 4 experienced guides, 8 climbers, 6.5 […]
Success (& Amazing View) On Fuhrer’s Finger
August 1, 2013 Fuhrer’s Finger never ceases to amaze me… Sometimes everything just seems to line up; the weather, the route (which initially seemed positively impassable) and good company. Our ascent of Mt. Rainier via the Fuhrer’s Finger was a gem last week. The crew packed a lot in over four days including threading the […]
