Local women weaving rugs (Phil Ershler)
Another dispatch from Phil and the Sikkim Trekkers early this morning:
“Super day in Darjeeling. Kicked it off with a fancy breakfast at the Windamere hotel, followed by visits to HMI (Himalayan Mountaineering Institute) and the zoo to see a snow leopard and red panda. The big treat was lunch at the home of Sita and Nawang Gombu. Gombu passed away recently – he was a mountaineering legend. Final stop at a Tibetan refugee center in the afternoon and a walk through town. We’re off in the morning.”
