Machame Camp –> Shira Camp

July 26, 2018

The team en route to Shira Camp (Phunuru Sherpa)
The team at Shira Camp. (Phunuru Sherpa)

IMG Guide Phunuru Sherpa called in from Shira Camp reporting that the team had a much drier day today. The climb from Machame Camp to Shira Camp is a fun one. The trail leaves the treeline behind pretty early in the day and transitions into what we call the zone of weird plants. Two prominent plants they surly saw today are the Lobelia and Groundsel plants.  After the zone of weird plants they find themselves on the Shira Plateau and at camp at 12,000ft.

Tomorrow they’ll get as high as 14,500ft at the Lava Tower before dropping down to Barranco Camp at around 13,000ft. The team is doing well and having a blast!
