Weekend followed by two days of serious snow at our Ashford office, but now it’s time to catch up with our Aconcagua groups. Nothing but good news to report. Luke and crew have been working their way up the mountain. Slept at C1 yesterday(about 16,000’) and are carrying today to C2. These are super important days. Food/supplies need to be moved up the mountain and the team has to continue their acclimatization process. You don’t get to attempt a 23,000’ peak without taking the steps and the time necessary to put you into position to take that final shot. It all takes time and effort. That’s what they’re doing.
Mike Hamill and crew all met in Mendoza, and with all their luggage, got permits, got packed up and left Mendoza today. Penitentes is their final jumping off point so today’s the time for final prep and prepping loads for the mules. Their three day approach hike to base camp begins tomorrow.
You can’t rely totally on forecasts but you do have to pay attention when available. Rest of this week looks reasonable. Maybe some precip/snow later in the week but clearing again by weekend. That’s quite good news for Luke’s team.
