While you enjoy your Christmas cocoa in front of your fireplace we’ve got lots of climbers out there enjoying some cocoa of their own around the stoves and in their tents.<\/p>\n

Aconcagua<\/strong><\/p>\n

Plaza Argentina<\/p><\/div>\n

What would most people say to celebrating Christmas at base camp on Aconcagua, at 13,600 ft?\u00c2\u00a0 It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a place called Plaza Argentina.\u00c2\u00a0 Most, I think, would say \u00e2\u20ac\u0153that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s nuts\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.\u00c2\u00a0 But that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s exactly where our current Aconcagua crew was last night, with guides Eben Reckord and Kelly Ryan.\u00c2\u00a0 And, they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re loving it.\u00c2\u00a0 Probably no place they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d rather be.\u00c2\u00a0 They\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re ending this year by starting a big adventure.\u00c2\u00a0 Pretty cool, huh?\u00c2\u00a0 So far, so good. \u00c2\u00a0Always a few headaches on arrival to a new and higher altitude but it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s all par for the course.\u00c2\u00a0 Christmas day will be a rest day for the team.\u00c2\u00a0 They\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re wishing all of us and we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re wishing all of them a very Merry Christmas!<\/p>\n

Vinson<\/strong><\/p>\n

Greg on Christmas Morning en route to Vinson<\/p><\/div>\n

One Vinson expedition for this season is now complete and another one is about to begin.\u00c2\u00a0 Senior IMG Guide, Greg Vernovage, leaves Christmas morning to meet a new team of IMG climbers for an attempt on Vinson Massif.\u00c2\u00a0 IMG Senior Guide, Aaron Mainer, will meet them on the Ice.\u00c2\u00a0 It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll be Aaron\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s second trip of the season.\u00c2\u00a0 What a great New Year\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s resolution \u00e2\u20ac\u201c climb Vinson Massif.\u00c2\u00a0 Now that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s what we call a heck of a way to start off the new year.<\/p>\n

The weather is slowly warming up in Antarctica but doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t mean that the team can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t still experience temperatures in the minus 20-30 degree F range.\u00c2\u00a0 It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s all relative.\u00c2\u00a0 Christmas in the air and New Year\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s on the Ice.\u00c2\u00a0 Fairly impressive stuff.\u00c2\u00a0 I bet they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll sneak a little wine or champagne into the food bags.<\/p>\n

Kilimanjaro<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Barranco Wall trail heading for Karanga is visible climbing from lower left to upper right.<\/p><\/div>\n

Ang Jangbu reports by Thuraya satellite phone that the team had a good hike to Barranco yesterday, at 13000 feet.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 En route, the trail took them to 14,500 feet, just below Lava Tower, where the team was snowed on!\u00c2\u00a0 They took it nice and slow, with the long ascent and descent.\u00c2\u00a0 Great acclimatization!\u00c2\u00a0 Everyone is doing well.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Today they will be heading to Karanga, for another night at 13,000.\u00c2\u00a0 Machame is a great route, what a prime acclimatization profile!<\/p>\n
