class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cayambe (Phil Ershler)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The biggest problem of late in Ecuador is \u00e2\u20ac\u02dclack\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 of snow.\u00c2\u00a0 This morning, it was the opposite for Emily, Romulo and team.\u00c2\u00a0 Too much snow.\u00c2\u00a0 Snowed and blew all night, not the best of combinations.\u00c2\u00a0 The Team headed up regardless and fought their way up to just over 18000 ft.\u00c2\u00a0 Significant hard slab over fluff and getting more loaded by the minute. \u00c2\u00a0Classic slab conditions.\u00c2\u00a0 Sliding surface, weak (fluffy) layer and then a slab perched on top gets scary fast.\u00c2\u00a0 Add being on slopes (or under slopes) in the 25-45 degree range and THEN be there during or right after a storm \u00e2\u20ac\u201c really bad combination.\u00c2\u00a0 Discretion, as they say, is the better part of valor.<\/p>\n<p>A strategic retreat was the order of the day.\u00c2\u00a0 Good attempt and smart decision to back off before it was too late.\u00c2\u00a0 The Team is packing up at the hut and getting ready to head to the hot springs in Papallacta.\u00c2\u00a0 They\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll lick their wounds, regroup and get prepped
