It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s always summer somewhere in the world.\u00c2\u00a0 That even includes Antarctica.\u00c2\u00a0 The Austral summer has started and that means the sun is now above the horizon 24 hours a day in Antarctica.\u00c2\u00a0 IMG\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s first Vinson expedition for the 2017\/18 season is being led by IMG Senior Guide, Justin Merle, and assisted by IMG Senior Guide, Emily Johnston, MD.\u00c2\u00a0 If that isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t a super guide combination, I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t know what is.\u00c2\u00a0 They met their climbing team in Punta Arenas, Chile the day after Thanksgiving.\u00c2\u00a0 Food shopping, packing, gear checks, getting over jet lag, orientation meetings, getting all the gear to the airplane and just an amazing amount of excitement kept everyone busy for the next couple of days.\u00c2\u00a0 I received news from Justin that they were headed for the airport the morning of the 26th<\/sup> and we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll next hear from them from the Ice.\u00c2\u00a0 Isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t it amazing when you can fly to Antarctica exactly on schedule?<\/p>\nJustin, Emily and team will touch base via sat phone when they can.\u00c2\u00a0 This is the first expedition of the season to Vinson.\u00c2\u00a0 Since IMG\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s first trip to Vinson in 1988, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve always found this first trip to be extra exciting.\u00c2\u00a0 It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s cold but it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Antarctica and to be expected.<\/p>\n
