{"id":1651,"date":"2010-09-29T06:30:26","date_gmt":"2010-09-29T14:30:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mountainguides.com\/wordpress\/?p=1651"},"modified":"2010-12-30T16:30:44","modified_gmt":"2010-12-31T00:30:44","slug":"kili-trip-report-darn-near-perfection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mountainguides.com\/wordpress\/2010\/09\/29\/kilimanjaro\/kili-trip-report-darn-near-perfection\/","title":{"rendered":"Kili Trip Report &#8211; Darn Near Perfection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>September 29, 2010<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1652\" style=\"width: 203px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mountainguides.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/Kilimanjaro-373.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"lightbox[1651]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1652\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1652  \" title=\"Ken and Kathy on The Top Of Africa!\" src=\"http:\/\/mountainguides.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/Kilimanjaro-373.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"193\" height=\"258\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mountainguides.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/Kilimanjaro-373.jpg 336w, https:\/\/mountainguides.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/Kilimanjaro-373-224x300.jpg 224w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 193px) 100vw, 193px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1652\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ken and Kathy on The Top Of Africa!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Another super Kilimanjaro expedition has come to an end, and  what an end it was.\u00c2\u00a0 The safari (almost) couldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have gone better.\u00c2\u00a0 Weather  remained perfect and did we see animals!\u00c2\u00a0 The capper was at the end of our last  day of viewing in Ngorongoro.\u00c2\u00a0 We thought we were pretty much done and that we  wouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be seeing cheetah on this trip.\u00c2\u00a0 So we thought.\u00c2\u00a0 First, one cheetah was  spotted.\u00c2\u00a0 Then, another.\u00c2\u00a0 The last was in the process of running down a Thompson  Gazelle, only to have it snatched away after the kill by a hungry hyena.\u00c2\u00a0 The  cheetah is too small to fight with this scavenger.\u00c2\u00a0 Again, we thought we were  done and began heading for the lodge.\u00c2\u00a0 One last stop was in order as two old  bull elephants decided to say good-bye while standing in the road.\u00c2\u00a0 We snuck by  so close that you could have reached your hand out of the Land Cruiser and  petted them.<\/p>\n<p>But the trip is about people and we had another great IMG  group.\u00c2\u00a0 10 on the true summit.\u00c2\u00a0 I couldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have asked for a better  team.<\/p>\n<p>I can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t sign off without mentioning a special summit on this  trip.\u00c2\u00a0 An old customer\/friend, Ken Maclaurin, signed up for this trip with his  mom.\u00c2\u00a0 Ken\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s been with me on numerous climbs and I respect his judgment.\u00c2\u00a0 As I  read his mom\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s sign-up information, I notice that she was 71.\u00c2\u00a0 Like a said, I  trust Ken.\u00c2\u00a0 I was right.\u00c2\u00a0 After watching her walk the first day on the climb, I  had no doubt I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d be giving her a hug on the summit.\u00c2\u00a0 Kathy Maclaurin climbed  Kilimanjaro in great form and stood on the true summit of Uhuru with her son,  Ken.\u00c2\u00a0 Well done, Kathy.\u00c2\u00a0 You too, Ken.
