{"id":9916,"date":"2013-07-03T12:19:27","date_gmt":"2013-07-03T20:19:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mountainguides.com\/wordpress\/?p=9916"},"modified":"2013-07-03T12:19:27","modified_gmt":"2013-07-03T20:19:27","slug":"hello-from-wisconsin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mountainguides.com\/wordpress\/2013\/07\/03\/mt-rainier\/hello-from-wisconsin\/","title":{"rendered":"Hello From Wisconsin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>July 3, 2013<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m sure that everyone has the intention to get married only once and therefore, we only have one opportunity to plan a honeymoon.\u00c2\u00a0 I surprised my wife on the day of our wedding in early October with the information that we would be climbing Rainier with IMG in June.\u00c2\u00a0 Needless to say, she was thrilled and our training began shortly thereafter.<\/p>\n<p>We knew that the traditional honeymoon would not suit us as we wanted to accomplish something together.\u00c2\u00a0 We wanted to be active, to practice teamwork and trust, and to be a part of something that we could not accomplish on our own;\u00c2\u00a0 IMG delivered in every way.\u00c2\u00a0 We learned together and, just as our appreciation and respect for the mountain grew, so did our appreciation and respect for each other.<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-9916 gallery-columns-2 gallery-size-thumbnail'><dl class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<dt class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='http:\/\/mountainguides.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/IMG_1552.jpg' rel=\"lightbox[9916]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"http:\/\/mountainguides.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/IMG_1552-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/dt><\/dl><dl class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<dt class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='http:\/\/mountainguides.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/IMGP0330.jpg' rel=\"lightbox[9916]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"http:\/\/mountainguides.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/IMGP0330-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/dt><\/dl><br style=\"clear: both\" \/>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>Of course, the celebration of our marriage at the top of Washington wouldn&#8217;t have been possible without the amazing assistance provided by your guides.\u00c2\u00a0 Jenni was an inspiration for calmness when mountain conditions became difficult during our descent; positive and informative, Jenni&#8217;s fearlessness, patience, and kind spirit are qualities that make her an ideal lead guide and encouraged a sense of confidence throughout the group.\u00c2\u00a0 Jenni made us feel even more proud of our accomplishment when she explained that, &#8220;Some people get a summit.\u00c2\u00a0 Some people get a storm.\u00c2\u00a0 You got both.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Josh is an amazing teacher.\u00c2\u00a0 He is always professional, stressing the fundamentals of climbing &#8211; and still, he\u00c2\u00a0 maintains a sense of humor that allows his &#8216;mountain students&#8217; to feel comfortable with asking him questions.\u00c2\u00a0 His optimism was undeniable and contagious.\u00c2\u00a0 The experience that Josh brought forth let us know that we were learning from the best.\u00c2\u00a0 It was clear that Josh wanted to summit with us but, when a member of our team couldn&#8217;t press on, Josh immediately and quietly volunteered to return to Camp Schurman.\u00c2\u00a0 Josh shared stories that instilled a sense of respect for the mountain in our team.<\/p>\n<p>When Josh returned to camp, I roped in with Blair.\u00c2\u00a0 Immediately, Blair&#8217;s leadership was apparent as he warned our group of dangerous spots, encouraged us, and had us practice different stepping techniques.\u00c2\u00a0 Blair was always willing to do whatever necessary to ensure that our team was comfortable, in good spirits, and was well fed!\u00c2\u00a0 The night I returned to IMG HQ, I went out to eat at a local restaurant and was amazed to see Blair sitting with another group&#8217;s team dinner that he would be assisting with the following day!\u00c2\u00a0 I knew immediately that the team was in good hands.<\/p>\n<p>Ian sat with our team at Camp Schurman on the day before summiting.\u00c2\u00a0 He shared with us his journey to become a guide, his passions outside of guiding, and his wealth of knowledge for climbing.\u00c2\u00a0 When a teammate became tired just before the summit, Blair radioed to Ian to encourage our tired teammate.\u00c2\u00a0 While remaining calm, Ian lifted our tired teammate&#8217;s spirits and he summited soon after.<\/p>\n<p>Most importantly, throughout our journey, we always felt safe.\u00c2\u00a0 The guides worked as a team &#8211; helping to share the load of tremendous responsibilities, cooperating to build off each others&#8217; strengths, and sharing a sense of humor that our entire team could relate to.<\/p>\n<p>I chose to climb with IMG because of the outstanding reviews and because of selection of climbs offered&#8230;
